After moving with her family to multiple states around the US and attending school in both Australia and France, Katie returned to her home town of Los Angeles to begin working. There, in 2011, she discovered climbing as a way to escape the big city and connect with others who loved the wilderness! As a former collegiate gymnast, she immediately fell in love with the acrobatic and flexible nature of climbing, and after that first day at the climbing gym, she never looked back!
‘I love climbing for so many reasons! I love the people who are always there to catch each other's falls. I love the beautiful places climbing allows me to explore, and the wild feeling of being outside, surrounded by wind and sun and stone."
Since then, Katie's love for climbing and outdoor adventure has only grown. Within her first year, she red-pointed 5.12a, and has since gone on to send 5.13a and V9. Despite fracturing her back in November of 2016, Katie was determined to come back stronger, and in 2017 she ended up sending her hardest routes to date and earning a ranking of 14th in her first USA Climbing National Cup Series competition.
‘I love the constant challenges that climbing provides. Every day it gives me an opportunity to work harder, grow stronger, and be braver.’
Outside of climbing, Katie is also an accomplished para-glider pilot and competitive sailor, has an MBA from the University of Technology in Sydney, AU and currently works in a variety of fields, including digital marketing, film production, and finance.
‘It's such an amazing feeling to send a difficult climb and take in the view from the top, knowing how hard you had to work to get there. In those moments, even though my muscles are exhausted, my fingertips are bleeding, and I'm covered in dirt and chalk and sweat, I have never felt more beautiful, strong, capable, or alive!"
