Most days I’m out of the house from morning till night. I’ve got my routine pretty slick: wake up, down a coffee or three, prepare all the meals as my fridge allows, brush teeth whilst dressing, stuff my cycle panniers with Sherpa-worthy amounts of gear before heading out. I go to the climbing gym, straight to my ambulance shift cycling in between. I need clothes that allow me to do anything, in any weather, without restriction.
This is why more often than not I choose the Ramblas. Their slim cut and diamond crotch make them ergonomic and comfortable to cycle in. When it rains, as it often does in the UK, it’s not the end of the world because of the fast-drying cotton fabric.
By the time I’ve warmed up in the climbing wall, the Ramblas are pretty much dry. When climbing I hardly notice them, which to me is the sign of a good garment. High steps, drop knees, whatever the movement you never get that annoying fabric-tightening which limits range of motion. Neither do they struggle with the post-climb stretch.
I have a ‘Yosemite’ grey pair that disguise the chalk, chain oil and general commuting dirt they acquire. And when I turn up at the ambulance station, I don’t look out of place like I would in a pair of fluro-coloured bouldering pants. And with the cut and look of a summer chino, they can be worn in social settings – no need to feel self-conscious at the bar or restaurant.
Essentially, they’re my go-to trousers for most things in life. I’ve had mine for a year now and nothing’s frayed, broken or torn. Considering the cotton is organic, which often means softer, that’s pretty impressive. I was surprised to find it's actually more durable. Needless to say, I’m sure we’ll continue to have a long and successful partnership for years to come.
