Fredde Lanka x 3RD ROCK

This year we have worked with Fredde Lanka (They/He), to design our PROUD range of clothing and accessories to show support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Originally from Sweden, Fredde has been based in London for the last 9 years working as an independent artist and educator. They work in a bold, colourful style across illustration, comics and ceramics.

The collection was launched at Climb Out 2023, a weekend climbing event that supports the LGBTQIA+ community and aims to help increase representation. 3RD ROCK attended the event, and gave financial support in the form of bursaries so that people could attend the event, talks, and workshops. This is part of our commitment to a more diverse climbing world, supporting under represented groups through our Climb Unity non-profit arm.

I was pleasantly surprised by the opportunity to collaborate with the lovely team over at 3rd rock. It is a great feeling when a client trusts you from the start and allows you to express yourself with confidence.

I spent a lot of time looking for photos of climbers, comparing the poses and gear that was being used. I then applied my own character designs in order to create a scene where queer climbers are happy together, and free to express their gender identities and sexualities freely.

Reading up on the work done by Climb Out, I feel confident in how my design help convey their message of bringing climbing to the community. I love commissions like this where I can imagine a happy world for my community.

Inspired by club sports badges, the design features a range of climbers and Pride flags, with a clear message of LGBTQIA+ Pride and Fredde Lanka/3RD ROCK cobranding.

The range includes t-shirts inpsired by the colourways of the Transgender Pride flag, two styles of sweatshirt with a bold back design, and a shopper tote bag large enough to carry your gym or wall gear in.
